Nausea is a symptom of a wide variety of disorders. It can be related to health problems of psychological or physical origin. Certain conditions affecting the brain or organs of the gastrointestinal tract may cause nausea. It is true that nausea may be experienced by diabetics, however there are still a number of disorders that may cause nausea, these include: stomach flu, heartburn, peptic ulcer and gastroparesis. Nausea may also be triggered by pain, motion, drugs as well as disorders of many non-gastrointestinal organs.

Some complain of nausea after meals if food items contain certain substances that their digestive system can not tolerate. Nausea (and vomiting) may occur after consuming contaminated food and drinks. Some complain of nausea after having food items that trigger an allergic reaction.

Discomfort after meals may also be attributed to your eating habits. Eating too fast, or having rich and fatty meals can make you nauseous. Eating too frequently or keeping long intervals between meals also cause nausea.

Treatment for nausea depends on its underlying disorder. The sooner you consult your doctor, the sooner the problem can be diagnosed. After taking your health history and carrying out physical examination, your doctor may request for some tests that will help identify the condition that has been causing your symptoms.

I think your concern about developing diabetes is quite understandable as the disease is known for its hereditary connection. Symptoms of diabetes include: extreme thirst, extreme hunger, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss and unusual tiredness. Diabetes screening at a younger age may be considered in patients who have have one or more risk factors. You should discuss your concerns regarding diabetes with your doctor, he or she will tell you more about diabetes screening and ways to prevent the disease.

This blog entry is for your general information only. I recommend that you discuss your symptoms with your own doctor.
