Triathlon and Cardiac ECHO findings

I had an ECHO done about 2 years ago… it found that I had trace/mild pulmonary regurgitation. Cardiologist reports that it is a normal finding and that it will likely never cause me any issues. I am currently training for my first triathlon. Is it possible that this could limit my performance in an ultra high intensity events such this?

Doctor Joshua’s Answer:

Trace to mild pulmonic regurgitation is a physiologic phenomenon, meaning that it is considered normal in most individuals. I don’t know why the Echo was done in the first place - did you have symptoms? - but if your cardiologist said it was normal, and did not give you any restrictions, then that’s the best information we have. Sounds like you will probably not suffer any performance problems, but as I have practically no knowledge of your medical history, my recommendation is to present this question to your cardiologist before training for the triathlon.
