breast lump in men

Hello! ?
I am a 26 year old male with a rather unusual problem. My left nipple has a swollen lump directly under the nipple. When I first noticed the lump 2 months ago it was painless but it has since started hurting whenever a small amount of pressure is applied. I have also noted that a clear fluid sometimes leaks from the tip of the nipple and the pores surrounding the nipple. I would go see a doctor for this if it is serious but I cant afford to waste any money if it is not!?

Thanks for your question.
In short, yes, you should go see a doctor. Having said that, it may well be nothing serious, from intraductal papilloma (a benign tumor often causing spontaneous discharge from one nipple only in women) to a simple cyst. Teenage boys may develop breast enlargement and lumps because of hormonal changes in mid-puberty, but you should be too old for that.
A breast lump and discharge from nipple (even when watery and not bloody) both can be signs of breast cancer, even in men. Although breast cancer is rare among men, it is of utmost importance to make the diagnosis as soon as possible. Thus, physical examination by your doctor, possible discharge fluid examination, needle biobsy or open biobsy is a must to make a definitive diagnosis and rule out cancer.
