It feels like I have a constant air bubble or burp stuck in my throat. It is worse when I lay down on my back.

Short answer to a short question: One possible reason is GERD, meaning gastroesophageal reflux disease. This occurs when acid from the stomach enters the esophagus. You could try a week’s course of antacids, healthy diet, no smoking, less coffee, and elevate the head end of your bed by a couple of inches by putting a book or two under each bed leg.
If this doesn’t help, and the symptoms continue, visit your primary care physician.
