I am 3 months pregnant and I have been to the doctor many times. After I have sex I bleed. I asked my doctor about this and he said it was normal but I want another answer from someone else. I just have a little blood when I pee, it isn’t a lot and I have no cramping. I had a pelvic exam and he said that everything looks good is this true about bleeding when you have sex?
Dr. Joshua’s Answer
Many women experience some bleeding during the first trimester of pregnancy. One of the more common causes is intercourse, which causes irritation of the sensitive cervix. I’m happy that you have seen the doctor about this, and I suggest that you follow your own doctor’s orders. If the bleeding increases or there is abdominal pain, you should see your doctor right away.
Infection is one possible cause of bleeding, either pelvic infection or urinary tract infection. UTI especially comes to mind as you describe having noticed blood in the urine. Infection should be ruled out.
If everything else seems OK, keep in mind that the cervix is very sensitive during pregnancy and exercise care during intercourse.
