Muscle Swelling, Rash, Tingling

Hi I have a muscle swelling in left side of lower left leg accompanied by a hot tingly sensation and red pin prick rash. I also have sharp pain in tibia when walking or putting pressure on lower leg.It is causing significant distress and making hard to walk.Any suggestions as to what this might be??

I also have a swelling behind left knee and tightness in the backs of both knees although this is i think unrelated to the muscle swelling and rash, i am concerned that it might be arthritis. Is this a symptom of arthritis if you have this problem with both knees?

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Thanks for your question. Hot tingly sensation, pain and rash could, amongst other things, be caused by shingles, and it should be treated with acyclovir. The symptoms you describe may be caused by some other skin infection, or joint infection. These are just some of the possibilities, but you should definitely see your doctor about this promptly.
