PCOS, Pain during Intercourse, Abdominal Pain

I am thinking of getting a new GP, this is because I have PCOS, and have had 3 miscarriages and 1 ectopic pregnancy. I now have 2 children, however i have been taken off my pill because my blood pressure went too high, the pill I was on was helping with painful periods, hair and having regular periods. I am now on Micronor, I had 1 period and now I have not had one for 4 months, I have done a pregnancy test and this was negative. I have abdominal pain, lower back pain when I sit down and pain when having intercourse. My GP is not going to send me for a scan, do you think that is OK or should I go somewhere else.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

I assume you are talking about a pelvic ultrasound scan. Diagnosis and treatment of your symptoms is definitely based on physical and pelvic examination and a thorough history of your symptoms. Only a live doctor can do that, so I’m not in a position to say whether a scan should be done or not. Pelvic ultrasound scan is, however, one of the most basic examinations to be done given your history and symptoms. Consultation with a gynecologist is also something that would seem necessary in this situation.

Try and discuss your concerns again with your GP. It may be that he has not sufficiently explained his thinking to you and left you with a feeling of uncertainty. You could always get a second opinion, and if possible, see a gynecologist. Consider calling the doctor who has been in charge of your PCOS treatment and tell him/her your concerns. Keep me posted!
