Birth Control Pills and Spotting

just recently started taking birth control, I had taken it previously and had no side effects or anything but I went off of it for several months. In order to skip my period this month, I took the first 3 sets of pills and skipped the placebo pills and started taking a new pack. Since I started taking the new pack I have experienced slight cramping and spotting, I am currently on the 8th pill in this pack. Is this normal and will it stop?

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

It seems likely that the spotting and cramps may be due to the irregularity in taking the pills. However, you should see your primary care physician or a gynecologist in order to determine the cause, and to discuss the proper use of birth control pills and the proper way of postponing periods.
