Blood in Urine after Pelvis Injury, Fracture

My brother had an accident and broke his pelvis. one of the jagged edges of the pelvis tore a hole in his blader. The decided to allow the hole to repair itself. This all took place on Dec. 27 2004. On accasions he passes blood, and recently has had trouble urinating. What is the possibility that there is a larger blood clot resricting flow.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

It doesn’t sound to me like this matter is satisfactorily resolved. Blood in the urine (hematuria) should always be investigated. I recommend that your brother see his doctor. He may need further investigations such as x-rays and cystoscopy to find the cause of passing blood, and it should be treated.
