Underage Alcohol Use Means Big Bucks for Alcohol Industry
-by Dr. Joshua
A recent study conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse reveals that illegal underage drinking as well as adult pathological drinking is a major source of profit for the alcohol industry.
The authors report that the combined value of the above mentioned problem groups was at least 48.3 billion dollars, or 37.5% of consumer expenditures for alcohol.
The alcohol industry has been blamed before for unfair and deceptive marketing practices aimed at underage drinkers.
The authors conclude that the financial interests of the alcohol industry conflict with public health interests in limiting pathological and underage drinking.
