Dr. Joshua’s Answer:
As you have been suffering from this almost ten years and it’s not getting progressively worse, it seems this is more of a “functional” problem, i.e. cannot really pinpoint a physical cause. Apparently you were examined thoroughly and it was determined that the symptoms were related to psychiatric illness. It seems this was indeed the cause as the treatment did help.
Usually with such a complaint, initially a thorough history, physical examination and some laboratory tests are needed, and these will then determine the need for further investigations or suggest a cause in themselves and consequently a treatment plan would be outlined. Sometimes, gastroscopy is needed if gastritis or ulcer are suspected. I trust all of this has been done in your case.
It would be helpful to know which medications you are taking. Some medications can cause nausea, as can some foods, drinking, and smoking. Also, if you have had an ulcer or gastritis, these conditions can reappear after years, and start causing symptoms again. Reflux esophagitis is also a possibility. Try to elevate the head-end of your bed by a few inches by placing a couple of books or some other material under the legs. This may help if it’s a reflux problem and presents in the mornings. Also, a two-week course of a proton pump inhibitor may be of benefit. Talk to your doctor about these. Also, I recommend that you do not reduce your medicines on your own - consult the prescribing doctor first.
Good luck!
