Itching in Scrotum, Erection, Vasectomy Complication?

Recently I have started experiencing a deep, internal “itching” along the right side of my scrotum and inner thigh area when I get an erection, usually during foreplay or beginning intercourse. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I did have a vasectomy over a year ago, but this has just started happening…thanks

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

It is possible that you are suffering from a late complication of vasectomy. Sometimes, ruptures occur in the structures that store and transport the sperm, after the normal pathway has been blocked by vasectomy. Granulomas may develop. These are small growths of tight tissue caused by the body’s immune response to sperm (Sperm are considered by the body as foreign material and elicit an immune response if released outside the reproductive system). These granulomas may irritate the tissue around them, and conceivably irritate a nerve which would in turn result in the sensations you describe.

I cannot be sure that this is the cause of your symptoms, but it is a possibility. If the symptoms persist, talk to your primary care physician, or a urologist. Fortunatly, most symptoms tend to resolve over time as the body gets used to the situation.
