Dr,

Iv noticed that the skin in my right nostrol has become simaler to cartilige. It isent the imediate area around the nostril, but the part above it. If i feel the inside and outside of my nose at the same time it feels like a plate that is there. It is more firm then the left. I cant say how long its been there. There is no discoloration on the surface, and i should add i have a deviated septum.
I ask you this question due to the fact i have no health insurance and live in a different country. If you could e-mail me back i would be greatful for your advice.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Skin changes such as this one are practically impossible to diagnose without having a look. At best, this is some skin irritation or other temporary problem that will resolve with time. At worst, it could be cancer. Naturally I recommend that you show it to a doctor. However, if you do not have access to health services, see if you could take a picture of it and send it to me via e-mail, and I’ll have a look. In any case, the least you can do is follow it and if the affected area grows in size or there is bleeding or scabbing, a visit to the doctor and a biopsy is needed. If it gets smaller and disappears, then following is sufficient.
