My husband has very cold hands and feet most of the time, even in the house when it is not cold. This has been going on for about a year and half now he dose have high blood pressure. Should I be concerned about this. They feel like he has had them in ice water
Dr. Joshua’s Answer:
His cold hands and feet may be related to the high blood pressure. It sounds like he has a high resistance in his peripheral circulation (small vessels of hands and feet). This may contribute to the high blood pressure. Some common causes are cigarette smoking or other nicotine use, and lack of exercise. A physical examination by a doctor is necessary to rule out a variety of treatable causes, especially peripheral arterial occlusive disease. If none are found, he may benefit from calcium channel blockers which open up the small vessels and also treat high blood pressure. Ask his doctor about this possibility.
