My daughter is twelve years old. She has over the past several months been having severe headaches, dizziness and been extremely tired. A few weeks ago, she passed out quite unexpectedly and with little warning.
She had bloodwork done which returned normal. She was also sent for an EEG. The brainwave pattern indicates that she has epilepsy although she has never had a seizure.
I am awaiting an appointment with a pediatrician , hopefully a MRI and CAT SCAN.
What i’m wondering if there are any signs I should be looking for , what to expect and any advise you can give me.
Dr. Joshua’s Answer:
I agree than she needs to get an MRI or CT done as soon as possible. While the symptoms do not necessarily mean that she has a serious illness, such symptoms in a child warrant immediate examination. She should not be waiting too long for an appointment for an MRI or CT, especially now that there is evidence of epilepsy on the EEG. She has been examined by doctors; I am not going to second-guess them, because obviously I only have the information you have chosen to provide. I am wondering however why EEG was done before CT scan or MRI - this is not the correct order of examinations given her symptoms. I hope she is getting examined in short order. Please write back to let me know how things are going.
