Was wonder if you knew anything about cq-10, Serveral people at my work place are taking it and just rave about it’s results and they suggested that I might try it. Well I went to buy some, but after reading the label about checking with your doctor if you had any medical condtions. So I went back home and called his office
and told his nurse to ask him about it and she stated that he knew nothing about it. So since you are also a
Doctor and gave me some good advice on my last guestion I thought I would seek your opinion once again.
By the way I’m a 58 year old male taking verapamil and cozaar for high blood pressure
Dr. Joshua’s Answer:
Coenzyme Q10 occurs naturally in the human body. It is used to help enzymes to produce energy for the cells. It is also an antioxidant. Some studies have been done to determine the effect of Coenzyme Q10 on heart damage caused by cancer chemotherapy. Coenzyme Q10 stimulates the immune system and reduces the damage to the heart caused by chemotherapy.
There is no evidence that coenzyme Q10 as a supplement is beneficial for healthy persons. Side effects of coenzyme Q10 include mild insomnia, elevated liver enzymes, rashes, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue and some other minor side efffects. No serious health or life threatening side effects have been reported.
Coenzyme q10 may have interactions with some prescription medications such as warfarin, cholesterol medication and medicines used in treatment of blood sugar levels.
