Diabetes and Blood Sugar Levels

I have beem having some signes of Diabetes. Would like to know if a blood suger level of 160 is some what High. I’ve got all the symptoms except for losing weight. Instead I’ve gained weight.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

In diabetes diagnostics, it’s important to know whether we are talking about a fasting sugar level or random sugar level. Which one is it? Random sugar level does not take into account the last time you had a meal, or a snack. Fasting sugar level is measured after fasting a minimum of 8 hours.?

For a fasting blood sugar level, 160 mg/dl is high, and suggestive of diabetes. Normal fasting sugar is below 70, and 70-125 could be a sign of pre-diabetes, over 125 is suggestive of diabetes.

Random sugar levels of below 100 are considered normal, 100-200 prediabetes, and >200 is suggestive of diabetes.
