Endometrial Biopsy Results - How long does it take?

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

About how long does it take to get results from an endometrial biopsy? Just want a general idea.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Usually 1-2 weeks. Depends on the hospital, laboratory, and pathology services, but I’d say normally you should have the results within about two weeks.

The biopsy must be prepared in the lab, go to the pathologist, the pathologist then looks at the biopsy material under the microscope, and analyzes the tissue histology and cellular content, cytology. Sometimes the pathologist will make further investigations including molecular biology, DNA, protein chemistry, and immunohistochemistry. These may cause a further delay in you getting your results.
