DIET
I received chemo about 3 years ago for cancer. At that time I gained a lot of weight. Since then I have tried to lose it but every time I start a diet plan I get extremely irritable. Even last year when I tried to lose weight I had the same results but I thought maybe it was still too soon after treatment and my system was still trying to get back on track from the chemo. It is now three years and I am trying again. I am not trying a lose weight quick diet. I have just tried to change my choices in foods and smaller portions. I have been eating whole grains, fruits and veggies. Instead of grabbing that candybar I grab an apple or orange. I can honestly say that I have not been hungry because I do not deprive myself. However, I am finding that I have become very crankie, snapping from time to time at others. When this happens I think to myself…NOW WHERE DID THAT COME FROM. What do you think could be wrong? Is my system needing something? I lost 5 pounds in the past two weeks of eating healthy, and that is including allowing myself an occasional treat from time to time. I don’t want to completely deprive myself nor lose weight rapidly. I am trying to do this the right way… but the irritability is a problem. I would appreciate your help. Thanks for your help
Dr. Joshua’s Answer:
One possibility is that your diet may be lowering your blood sugar levels a tad too much occasionally. This is a common cause of crankiness, especially on a diet. Your diet sounds very good to me, but perhaps you should consider having a snack (fruit, glass of juice) more often.
