Blood Transfusion and Cellulitis

21 months ago I had 2 blood transfusions, due to a ruptured uterus during pregnancy. 6 weeks ago I had a large boil on my buttocks and was diagnosed with cellulitis. Since then I have had 3 more one after the other. I now have one on my leg and have scheduled to see my pcp in 10 days. My entire lower leg and foot is swollen. I have never had skin problems before. I worry that my current problem is related to the transfused donor blood, specifically Hep C. What tests should I ask my pcp to do?

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Those are not the symptoms of hepatitis. Probably something unrelated to the transfusions. If you’re worried, just get the hepatitis antibody + HIV work-up done to ease your mind, plus of course any other tests your physician might see fit.
