Vaginal Soreness

I am a 67 yr.old female and for almost a year my vagina has been sore. I recently had a physical. No bacterial infection nor yeast infection was found. The Dr. thought perhaps it was dryness, but that too was ruled out. It will come on suddenly and also ALMOST go away in a day or 2. Intercourse is either uncomfortable to very painful. There is no discharge or unusual odor. I am completely stumped.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Vaginal atrophy is a common problem in postmenopausal women. It causes soreness, dryness, and pain during intercourse. I recommend that you talk to your doctor about starting local oestrogen therapy. There is good clinical experience as well as evidence that local oestrogen therapy is safe and effective. Ask your doctor about local oestrogen therapy for vaginal atrophy.?
