15-year Old Girl Feeling Low and Dizzy

Our 15 year old daughter as seen every specialist in the past 14 months and has been told she has Postural Hypotension. She has been to the emergency room at least 15 times and has had extensive blood and urine work.

Every doctor said she is perfect medically but everyday she feels low and at times dizzy.

1 Cardiologist prescribed .02 of Florinet daily which has only helped slightly. This cardiologist will not change her medication of which I suggested Midodrine.

With all the doctors our daughter has seen no one can help her feel well and relieve her of her symptoms. We are truly frustrated, especially our daughter. She just wants to feel normal but on one is helping us.

I recently found out that Ultracet and Tramadol side effects are Hypotension and dizziness. This medication she takes for monthly cramps. Do you feel this is the problem? She has been taking these pain pills for over a year.

We don’t know what to do at the point……………………………please help us.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Postural hypotension seems an unlikely cause for feeling continuously low and dizzy, especially in a 15-year old. Tramadol is probably not the cause if she only takes these occasionally for menstruation pain and not daily. Tramadol however is not the drug of choice for menstrual pain. You could try and discontinue that and see whether it helps. As you said, she has been extensively examined and all the lab work has been done, ( i assume including thyroid hormone lab work-up). Has she seen a psychiatrist? Depression should also be ruled out. But, as you said, she’s seen all the specialists, and I’m sure there is nothing I can add to that over the internet. Good luck!
